팀 켈러와 나눈 마지막 이메일 by 존 파이퍼

팀 켈러 목사님 생전에 교제를 했던 존 파이퍼(77) 목사님께서 팀 켈러 목사님과 마지막으로 나눈 이메일에 대한 내용을 영상으로 나누셨습니다. 다음은 그 내용입니다. 많은 크리스천들에게 울림이 되었으면 좋겠습니다.

팀 켈러와 제가 마지막으로 주고받은 이메일을 보면, 그는 제가 젊은 목회자들에게, 아마도 젊은 사람들에게 말해주길 원했다고 생각합니다.

Based on the final exchange by email that Tim Keller and I had, there's something I think he would want me to say to younger pastors, maybe younger everybody.

 

우리는 누가복음 10장 20절에 대해 함께 나누고 있었는데요. 예수님께서 사역에서 돌아온 72명의 제자들에게 말씀하시는 장면이죠. 제자들은 귀신들이 자신들에게 굴복하자 크게 기뻐하고 있었죠.

We were reveling together in Luke chapter 10 verse 20, where Jesus responds to the 72 disciples as they returned from their ministry, and they are overjoyed that the demons are subject to them.

 

예수님께서 말씀하십니다. "귀신들이 너희에게 복종하는 것에 기뻐하지 말고, 너희 이름이 하늘에 기록된 것으로 기뻐하라"

And Jesus responds "Do not rejoice that the spirits are subject to you. Rejoice in this, that your names are written in heaven."

 

그리고 팀이 저에게 말했죠, "마틴 로이드 존스 목사님이 그가 죽어갈 때, 그 어떤 구절보다 평안을 얻었던 말씀입니다. '내 이름이 하늘에 기록되었다'부분이죠"

And Tim reminded me that Martin Lloyd Jones found more comfort in that as he was dying than in any other text. My name is written in heaven.

 

팀이 제가 이렇게 말하길 원할 겁니다. "성경 공부를 하십시오. 문화 공부를 하십시요. 마음을 다해 하나님의 말씀을 전하세요. 당신의 교회를 사랑하고 양 떼를 돌보세요. 하지만 그 모든 것의 기반에는, 그 모든 것보다도, 당신이 구원받았다는 것에 더 기뻐하세요. 여러분의 성공보다 말이죠.

So here's what I think Tim would want me to say, "By all means, do your biblical exegesis. By all means, do your cultural exegesis. By all means, preach the Word of God with all your heart. By all means, love your church, care for the flock. But under all that, in all that, above all that, be more thrilled that you are saved, than that you are successful.

 

구주 예수님으로 더 기뻐하세요. 그분의 사역 보다요. 이것이 팀 켈러가 제가 여러분에게 말하길 바라는 것이라 생각합니다.  

Take more delight in the Savior than in his service. That's what I think Tim Keller would want me to say.
